Anointing of the Sick
“Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.”

— James 5:14
The above passage from the Letter of James is the text that indicates there was a practice in the early Church to pray over those who were ill. We celebrate the Sacrament of the Sick with anyone who is in need of healing — physical, emotional and spiritual. It is celebrated to restore the person not only to physical health, but to spiritual health within the community of the faithful.

We celebrate this Sacrament on an individual basis, as well as on a communal basis at one of our weekend Masses once per month. If you or a loved one would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick, please contact one of our priests here at St. Charles either by email or by telephone: (585) 663-3230.
